LIFE 2026: €601.5 million for ideas that make change possible

The European Commission has launched the LIFE calls for applications for 2026 with a total budget of over €601.5 million, targeting solutions that do not just respond to the challenges of our time, but turn them into opportunities.

In a context of growing climate, energy and economic challenges, the programme this year puts an even stronger focus on innovation, sustainability and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

LIFE remains one of the EU’s key tools to support real, workable solutions, from nature restoration and biodiversity protection, through the circular economy and zero pollution, to accelerating the transition to clean energy and more sustainable energy systems.

What sets the programme apart, namely the search for projects that can be upgraded, replicated and implemented on a larger scale, remains unchanged this year.

Key application deadlines

(nature and biodiversity, circular economy, environmental management, climate)
22 September 2026

The calls are open to a wide range of applicants – public institutions, business, research organisations and non-governmental bodies, promoting partnerships and cross-sectoral solutions.

The September deadlines may seem far away, but it is now time to develop strong ideas and sustainable project concepts, as well as to build partnerships.
