Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation

The Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Sub-programme aims to transition to a sustainable, energy efficient, renewable energy based, climate neutral and resilient economy, thus contributing to sustainable development.

Climate Change Mitigation
The Climate Change Sub-programme supports projects in the fields of agriculture, land use, peatland management, renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

It is envisaged to provide support for pilot, demonstration and best practice projects that contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the implementation and development of EU policy and legislation, best practices and solutions.

The Sub-programme also promotes integrated approaches to the implementation of climate change mitigation strategies and action plans at regional or national level.

Climate change adaptation
In this area, the LIFE Programme co-finances projects addressing adaptation in cities and land-use planning, infrastructure resilience, sustainable water management in drought-prone areas, flood and coastal management, resilience of the agricultural, forestry and tourism sectors and/or support for the EU's outermost regions: preparedness for extreme weather events, especially in coastal areas.

The sub-programme provides action grants for best practices, pilot and demonstration projects that contribute to increasing resilience to climate change. Integrated projects that implement the EU's climate change adaptation policy and strategy are also encouraged.

Climate governance and information
The programme co-finances projects supporting the implementation of the European Climate Pact, sustainable finance activities, awareness-raising, training and capacity-building, knowledge development and stakeholder engagement in the areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation.
